I got my custom-made necklace on Tuesday, and I've been loving it. The initial idea, the collaborative process, the anticipation, the special feeling of having something that was made just for me, wearing the necklace and periodically remembering why it's special, getting comments on it, it's all been so much more fun than wearing any other thing that you can just walk in and buy at the store. I'm not generally a jewelry person, in that I tend to wear the same things every day: one of two watches, the same pair of earrings, and nothing else, but I've already started thinking about what else I could ask my friend to make.
