hard won

I am often reluctant to call for customer service. Then when I get bad service, I am disproportionately outraged. It's like the perfect storm. Except that this time, I started calm, dug in my heels, argued my way up to the top, and negotiated until I got what I wanted. Same coverage, a 20% discount, and the ability to just deal directly with my actual service provider on his personal phone, and never having to call the national or regional lines again.

My department has this program in which you can post some of your deals (if you're too busy) or pick up someone else's deals (if you're interested in it and have some extra time). It's pretty handy, and I've used it a few times to get coverage for my deals when I'm on vacation, or when I'm swamped. The people who use the system most get prizes. This time around, I got a Riedel decanter and a bunch of wine glasses.

Wait. I get to give someone else my work and I get free stuff? Yes, please.

I love getting through a tank of gas and getting really good gas mileage. It's like winning a pointless game -- satisfying in a way that's not so relevant to anything else in my life. 400 miles on less than nine gallons of gas? I win!

weekend

I had a work thing last night, and the uselessly competitive side of me derived some satisfaction when my team won the trivia game. Got home, did some work, managed to fall asleep without pills (which, at least for me, is much harder than it sounds), slept harder than I've slept in months, and had hilarious dreams the whole time. I woke up convinced it was Monday, and was pleasantly surprised that it's Saturday.

another day at work

I spent the first part of the day doing pro bono work, helping senior citizens get financial power of attorney set up, and the second part if the day playing mini golf, air hockey, and arcade games, and drinking Icees with my coworkers. I forgot how good Icees are, and I somehow managed to win at mini golf.
