practice makes better

I'm not going to claim that practice makes perfect, but I'm definitely noticing an improvement with each practice session I have on my bagpipes lessons. Less like a dying duck and more like a sick duck, and having lots of fun.

brush with greatness

Company founder totally tried to pet Fiver today. Fiver was skeptical, but looked hopeful that there might be food involved. (There wasn't.)

relief

I have had a headache for the past week, which survived despite tons of Advil, water, sleep, and food. Vicious. Finally getting a bit of relief now, thanks to three Advils and four extra strength Tylenols. Probably not so good for my body, but so good to have a break from the headache, which was starting to drive me crazy.

cheshire moon

On my way home last night, it was a Cheshire moon (which is what I call it when there's a crescent moon that looks like a smile), and I happened to see it just as I was smiling to myself about something, and it felt like the whole sky was grinning along with me. I love Cheshire moons.

dead or alive

Sometimes a deal just isn't meant to be, and it's better to see it (and the people working on it) put out of its misery. I'm cautiously optimistic that this is one of those times.

one down

Transitioned one of my two biggest remaining deals from my old group this week. I'm getting closer and closer to my clean start.

valentine with interest

Boyfriend was in Boston for Valentine's Day, and he got back last night. He brought me chocolate, but instead of bringing one box, he bought two boxes plus cocoa to make the best hot chocolate in the world, all from a shop in Harvard Square where I used to go with my friends during college.

long weekend

Long weekend starting tomorrow, and Boyfriend and I will be going to Seattle (I've never been). Looking forward to going away, hanging out, checking out a new city, trying out some restaurants, and meeting up with a college friend whom I haven't seen in years.

if only

If only I didn't get carsick (or in this case bus-sick) so easily, and if only I were more of a skier, then I would be in the most enviable position of having three work trips to Tahoe this season. Since I do get motion sick and don't ski that much, however, I'm facing a tough decision. I went once this week, and on the plus side, I got to talk to some people and got a great facial instead of going skiing, but on the minus side, I was totally wiped out from the Dramamine and fell behind on work. So now the question is whether I should do it again two more times. We all face difficult decisions in life...

big and beautiful

This 30" monitor is so big and beautiful, I don't know what to do with it.

no more waiting

It's finally here! Two months after getting the latest and greatest Android phone, I can finally have Swype, as well.

with the band

I was talking to a coworker last night, and he's in a band that actually has an agent, does gigs, and gets paid. He wants me to come to sing with them at rehearsal some time to see what happens. Not sure that I'm that kind of singer, or that I have any voice left after all these years, but it's kind of cool to be asked.

restless dreams

I looked at my American Airlines mileage balance, and although I don't fly with them that much, I have a bank account and credit card that dump miles into my miles account, and I have over 200,000 miles! I've started daydreaming about planning a round-the-world trip, maybe for as long as five weeks, probably not until 2013. A good friend is getting married in Austria in 2013, so Boyfriend and I have started brainstorming how we could turn that into a mega-trip, combining the wedding in Austria, food in France or Spain, friends and work in Zurich, safari and other adventures in Africa somewhere, and a dive trip in the South Pacific. Who knows if we'll be able to make it happen, but the idea itself is exciting.

stock up

Boyfriend flew out early this morning and will be away for six days. He ran to the store last night to stock the fridge so that I won't starve while he's gone.

hope

Could this mean that winter is over and spring is here?

sweet

Every once in a while, you get one Frosted Mini Wheat that has the right amount of frosting.

bouncy

Went to a trampoline place today for a work off-site, and had a lot of fun discovering that I do not have a future in trampoline dodgeball.

social life

So far so good on one of my resolutions for the year: to do at least one social activity per week, rather than being lazy and sitting at home all the time. It has been fun catching up with people, including an out of town college friend last night, and my reading is still proceeding at a respectable rate.

progress

I've officially switched managers, and requests are in for new business cards and a new desk, so my transition at work is gradually progressing.
